"Jade should be chiseled to make it a useful vessel." Similar theory can be applied to the cultivation of a man. In order for a man to be capable of contributing to a society, he must be educated and disciplined into a well-rounded character. On that account, education is essential for any nation to stock itself up with some talents.
In recent years, with implementation of the open policy, China's economy has soared. Regardless of the commercial or the industrial field, the Nation's overall achievement has been remarkable. Should China maintain this constant economic growth, it will soon leap from being a "developing country" to becoming one of the World Powers. Hopefully then, people's quality of life will be improved. Therefore, proprogating universal education is a task that the government must put on top priority in nation's agenda.
Though living standards in contemporary China has improved dramatically, there are still many who are suffering in the more remote areas of the nation. These regions, often with vast territories, have extremely uneven distribution of resources. Poverty, therefore, have become a fact of life. Despite such a grim aspect, many children in these areas still manage to have received some elementary education.
To ease the crisis in these areas, Mr. Hung Yat Fai, in 1991, together with a group of enthusiast set up the Yat Fai Educational Foundation (hereinafter called " the Foundation"). The Foundation's mission is to subsidize various items of education in the poor regions in form of self–provision or co-operation with the local government. Donation from the Foundation has covered various regions throughout China – Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Guizhou, Ningxia, Sichuan, and Shanxi Province. With the donation, the Foundation hopes that children will have to opportunity to study in schools and later in the future, will become the major supports of this nation.
"No discrimination" is the spirit of the Foundation. The donation will grant to the needy regardless their sex, races, living areas or religious beliefs. Committee members come from all walks of life and most of them have worked as volunteers in various affairs. Furthermore, the Foundation also invites professionals from Mainland China to act as volunteer consultants for handling educational affairs and construction work of prospective schools.
Since the Foundation is expanding, all are welcomes to join us. Anyone who is concerned in promoting education in China can become a noble volunteer in this crusade. At the same time, any public donations are welcomed.
The Yat Fai Educational Foundation is registered as a voluntary organization in Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong. All donations are qualified for tax-exemption.
